Abstract

Objective: To determine the effect of a nursing intervention on breastfeeding knowledge and neonatal feeding practices among mothers at the El Carmen Maternal and Child Teaching Regional Hospital in Huancayo. Material and Methods: This applied, experimental study used a quasi-experimental pretest-posttest design. The population consisted of 500 breastfeeding mothers, with a convenience sample of 30 mothers of hospitalized newborns. Data were collected through surveys using a questionnaire. Results: Before the intervention, 51.6% (16) of mothers had moderate knowledge and 35.5% (11) had low knowledge. After the intervention, 86.79% (26) achieved high knowledge levels. Regarding feeding type, exclusive breastfeeding (73.3%), mixed feeding (23.3%), and formula use (3.3%) remained unchanged from pretest to posttest. Conclusion: The nursing intervention was effective in improving both breastfeeding knowledge (p=0.000) and neonatal feeding type (p=0.001) among mothers at "El Carmen" Regional Teaching Maternal and Child Hospital.
